The TRACKX is a tracked vehicle manufactured by Patria, which was first unveiled at DSEI 2025. The personnel carrier is characterised by particularly wide rubber tracks, a low centre of mass and a hydropneumatic suspension system.
The design is specifically tailored for deployment in Arctic conditions, such as those found in Norway, Sweden and Finland. With an unladen weight of 12 tonnes and a capacity of 10+2 soldiers, the TRACKX is intended to eventually replace the now ageing M113 and MTLB personnel carriers.
On the 15th of June, at Eurosatory 2026, the Finnish Defence Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) signed a cooperation agreement to facilitate the mutual exchange of experience in preparation for a possible procurement.
The FMV also announced that five TRACKX vehicles will be procured as part of a pre-production run in order to evaluate the vehicle’s characteristics and suitability for the needs of the Swedish Armed Forces. These findings are to be shared with the Finnish military.
Patria’s best-known product is probably the Patria 6×6 wheeled vehicle, which has been procured by several European countries as part of the CAVS programme.
These include Denmark, Latvia, Norway, Sweden and Finland. Germany’s Bundeswehr is also looking into the possibility of procuring the vehicle and has already ordered a pre-production batch. The personnel carrier is also in service in Ukraine.
The TRACKX was also developed as part of a multinational programme. The European Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems (FAMOUS) project was funded by the EU under the European Defence Fund (EDF).
The aim of this project is to develop armoured vehicles for use in extreme geographical and climatic conditions. These include, for example, thick layers of snow, swamps and sand dunes.
Although series production had not yet been established, Patria also unveiled an unmanned vehicle based on the TRACKX at Eurosatory 2026, in collaboration with RENK. This vehicle utilises RENK’s HSWL 076 gearbox, which enables drive-by-wire control.
Thanks to the TRACKX’s modular design, it is highly compatible with the manned version, which should help to reduce maintenance costs.
